The Ocean Blue arrived as the 1980s drew to close, and their debut record on the famed Sire Records label in 1989 seemed to summarize the best of the passing musical decade. With the release of The Ocean Blue, the band of four teenagers from Hershey, Pennsylvania quickly achieved widespread acclaim and radio & MTV airplay with top 10 Modern Rock/College Radio hits like Between Something and Nothing, Drifting, Falling, and Vanity Fair. They followed their debut with the dreamy and atmospheric Cerulean, which includes perhaps their most beloved song, Ballerina Out of Control. Their third Sire release and highest charting pop album Beneath the Rhythm and Sound featured the single Sublime, with a video of the band in the sublime landscape of Iceland. The band's fourth major label album on Mercury/PolyGram, See The Ocean Blue, delved into wider 60s and 70s stylings but with the band's 80s DNA peeking through.
The band left the majors in the late 90s and released several independent records in the ensuing decade, including 2000's Davy Jones Locker and 2004's Waterworks. In 2013, after a long hiatus and much anticipation, the band released their first full length record in a decade, Ultramarine, on Korda Records, a label cooperative the band helped launch that same year. The record was a welcome return for both long-time fans of the band and a younger generation of like-minded fans, and it garnered widespread praise as one of their very best albums. In 2015, the band worked with Sire Records to reissue their first three albums on vinyl, and did wider touring in North America and in South America, where some of their most passionate fans reside.
In 2019, the band returned with the beautifully powerful Kings and Queens / Knaves and Thieves, and has continued to tour for this release and the newly re-issued vinyl of See The Ocean Blue (2022) and Davy Jones Locker (2023). -

The Late Nites is a 7 piece neo soul funk fusion band from Milwaukee WI.
Hanna Simone is a 24 year old American singer songwriter from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Saving Abel is a Southern rock band with catchy hooks and heavy riffs founded by Jared Weeks and Jason Null. Their first single "Addicted" broke on to the scene, climbing its way quickly into a cross over hit from mainstream rock to Billboard Hot 100 and Top 40. With millions of sales under their belt, it's easy to see how their self-titled debut album charted on Billboard's Top 50 and became RIAA certified muliti-platinum. Their debut album delivered two more #1 singles with 18 days and Drowning (Face Down), across multiple charts and solidified this bands name in rock.
Their sophomore album "Miss America" did not disappoint and followed down the same path their debut record had set. "Miss America" debuted in the top 25 albums and produced similar charting singles with "Stupid Girl (Only in Hollywood) and "The Sex is Good".
After five Top 10 Billboard charting releases, Saving Abel went back into the studio for their third record "Bringing Down The Giant". They released the title track off that album finding success and breaking top 10 on multiple charts. After non stop touring and writing for records, their lead singer Jared Weeks took a step back for a much needed break and to pursue a solo career. Saving Abel went on touring with Null. After a 7 year gap, Weeks and Null both felt a pull to revisit songs they had written prior to Saving Abel. Whilst working on their Shade of Grace project, Weeks and Null knew what the next step should be. Weeks reunited with Saving Abel with the immediate release of "Shade of Grace -- Twenty Year Songs".
Saving Abel have received multiple awards from MTV, VH1, Fuse, BMG and Music Choice. "Addicted" won most played song of the year and has hit over 130 million streams on Spotify and over 200 million as a band. Their tours have included some of the top grossing tours of all time with bands such as Nickelback, Papa Roach, Avenged Sevenfold, Shinedown and Sevendust to name a few.

After thirty years as one of the world's leading Celtic Rock bands, the Young Dubliners have begun work on their tenth studio album while still maintaining their busy tour schedule.
Having survived the crushing impact of the lockdown on their industry they have returned stronger than ever and determined to bring their fusion of Celtic and rock music to as many people as they can.
The band is Keith Roberts (vocals / guitar), Chas Waltz (Violin, keys, vocals), Justin Pecot (guitar, vocals), Dave Ingraham (drums) and Ethan Jones (bass guitar).
With a solid line up and a new batch of songs to play, The YD are excited to bring live music back into people's lives. Following their recent signing to the Skyline music agency, new dates are being added daily as the world reopens.
"We want to be the band who reminds the world how important a good gig can be to our sanity after what we've all been through" says Roberts.
For only the second time the band is looking to its fans to finance the album instead of a traditional record company. "The business has changed so much over our lifetime that it no longer makes sense for us to take money from a label and then owe it all back" says Roberts. "Making all our supporters co producers is a far more rewarding way to make a record and allows us to maintain control all the way". The band have teamed up with long time producer, Irish born Tim Boland, and will begin recording in the coming months.
The Young Dubliners have released nine albums to date. The set on the upcoming dates will draw from all their albums and include unreleased new material.
In recent years the Young Dubs have appeared twice on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live, had songs featured in TV shows (Sons Of Anarchy, Human Target) and toured extensively as a headliner and as the opener for such a diverse list of artists as Collective Soul, Jethro Tull, Johnny Lang, Los Lobos, Chris Isaak and many more.
Although the Young Dubliners sound is most commonly called 'Celtic Rock', that label can often be misleading. The Irish influence is certainly there, but it's not the only influence that bursts through on their albums or live shows. After all, several of the band members have no Irish roots of any kind. "That was always the idea", explains Roberts "The sound was intended to be a hybrid because we all come from different backgrounds. Even though I am from Ireland, a lot of the music I listened to growing up wasn't Irish at all, but when I got here, I got homesick and developed a new appreciation for Irish Music. In truth the Celtic riffs can just as easily come from the American band members. Everyone writes now so you never know what you'll end up with" -

The depths of the Texas blues tradition with the wit of a poet. She hits the stage with an unmatched presence, a true legend in her time.
She'd grown up the child of a singer in a band and began playing her mother's vintage Martin guitar when other girls were dressing dolls. She'd gone from being the teenage toast of her hometown Houston to sleeping in her van in Austin amid heaps of critical acclaim for excellent recordings.
Along with the guitar and the multitude of other instruments she learned to play -- trumpet, accordion, piano, mandolin, lap steel -- Wonderland's ability to whistle remains most unusual. Whistling is a uniquely vocal art seldom invoked in modern music, yet it's among the most spectacular talents the human voice possesses.
That vocal proficiency was well-established in the singer's midteens, landing her gigs at Fitzgerald's by age 15. She absorbed Houston influences like Little Screamin' Kenny, Albert Collins, Lavelle White, Jerry Lightfoot, Joe "Guitar" Hughes, Little Joe Washington, "borrowed" a car to sneak out and jam ended up swapping songs with Townes Van Zandt at Houston's Local's on White Oak, got involved in the underground theater scene becoming the first "Photochick" in Jason Nodler's "In the Under Thunderloo" and soaked up touring bands like the Paladins, Los Lobos, and the Mad Hatter of Texas music, Doug Sahm. Her music played in television series such as "Time of Your Life" and NBC's "Homicide." The Lone Star State was as credible a proving ground for blues in the 1980s and 90s as existed, especially in Austin with Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Angela Strehli, Omar & the Howlers, and Lou Ann Barton all in their prime. By the following decade, Austin's blues luster thinned, but Houston, always a bastion of soul and R&B, boasted the Imperial Monkeys with the effervescent Carolyn Wonderland as ruler of the jungle.
In the early 1990s, Wonderland & the Imperial Monkeys were invited to the Guadalupe Street Antone's in Austin. There, they were treated like royalty with the singer as the queen of hearts in the club's post-Stevie Ray Vaughan stable, which included Toni Price, Johnny and Jay Moeller, Sue Foley, Mike and Corey Keller, and the Ugly Americans. It was a good bar for the Monkeys to hang, and Austin felt so comfortable that when the band called it quits a few years later, after a run-in with black ice and a semi that wound young Miss Wonderland in the hospital, she set her sights on Austin at the start of the millennium. Besides, Doug Sahm had told Carolyn while they were signing autographs together at the High Sierra Music Festival, she ought to move to Austin, as it was the land of free guitar lessons. She was there in months.
Living in Austin renewed Carolyn Wonderland's focus on her multiple talents, underlining rich vocals with excellent guitar work, trumpet, and piano, as well as that remarkable ability to whistle on key. Despite spending two years homeless (or as she puts it, "van-full,") Austin has been fertile ground for Carolyn. A series of each-better-than-the-next discs began with Alcohol & Salvation in 2001 ("songs about booze and God; records are a time capsule of what happened that year") 2003's "Bloodless Revolution," The Bismeaux Releases: 2008's "Miss Understood," 2011's "Peace Meal" (recorded at Bismeaux and Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock,) 2015's "Live Texas Trio"; and here we are with 2017's "Moon Goes Missing."
Carolyn also got to stretch out with other bands and notably appears in Jerry Lightfoot's Band of Wonder's 2002 release, "Texistentialism" featuring Jerry Lightfoot, Vince Welnick (Grateful Dead, The Tubes, Todd Rundgren,) Carolyn, Barry "Frosty" Smith (Lee Michaels, Sly & the Family Stone, Rare Earth, Soulhat) and Larry Fulcher (Taj Mahal, Phantom Blues Band). She has released many songs for charity, 2016's "Room at the Inn" (iTunes) benefits Doctors Without Borders, 2013's "Money in the Game" (featuring Marcia Ball and Shelley King) benefits Planned Parenthood, "the Farmer Song" from "Miss Understood" benefits Farm AID, "Annie's Scarlet Letter" from "Bloodless Revolution" benefits NORML, 1997 Justice Records released Carolyn's version of Little Screamin' Kenny's holiday lament, "Blue Lights" (featuring Ian McLagan) benefitting MD Anderson Children's Art Project.
Carolyn's first appearance on vinyl? She's with James Williamson (Stooges) on the April 2014 Record Store Day single, "Open Up & Bleed" AND on the full LP inspired by that fun session, "Re-Licked" featuring Raw Power Era songs with cool and risky guests.
Her circle of musician friends and admirers broadened to include not only Ray [Benson, who produced Miss Understood] but also the late Eddy Shaver, Shelley King, and yes, Bob Dylan, who likened her composition "Bloodless Revolution" to "a mystery movie theme." She appeared on the same taping with Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings when she made her debut on PBS' "Austin City Limits" (Season 35.) and had the thrill of her life when Bonnie Raitt joined her onstage for "The Road to Austin" concert film featuring Stephen Bruton and all his friends, got to play with James Cotton, Pinetop Perkins, and so many others at Antone's, she and Erin Jaimes put together a benefit for Uncle John Turner and Johnny Winter insisted on bringing his band by to play, Carolyn's wedding to A. Whitney Brown was officiated by Mike Nesmith (Monkees,) who serendipitously introduced them on set at VideoRanch in 2010. (there is a video of the two of them on stage together that day!) She began co-writing with locals Sarah Brown, Shelley King, Marcia Ball, Ruthie Foster, Cindy Cashdollar, and Guy Forsyth; sat in with Los Lobos, Levon Helm, Vintage Trouble, Robert Earl Keen, and Ray Wylie Hubbard; and toured relentlessly for the past two decades, sometimes with luminaries like Dave Alvin, Buddy Guy and Johnny Winter, so far spreading her music in US, Europe, South America and Japan. She also claims membership in the all-girl Sis Deville, the gospel-infused Imperial Crown Golden Harmonizers, the Texas Guitar Women, and the Woodstock Lonestars.
Carolyn recently joined John Mayall's Band as his guitarist and is balancing life on the road with writing time at home and on the way. She's been touring for over 25 years and ain't done yet. Come and see it at a show! (seriously, she's perpetually on tour.) -

Iain Matthews first gained attention as a founding member and vocalist for the innovative Fairport Convention's first three albums, changing the voice of folk music in his country. He moved on to create Matthews' Southern Comfort, exploring his interest in American music. They had a No 1 hit in the UK with Joni Mitchell's 'Woodstock'. Never one to stand still for very long Iain moved on during the 1970's with another group, Plainsong. An ensemble that allowed Iain to blossom as a songwriter and acoustic guitarist -- supported by his ex-Fairport mates Sandy Denny and Richard Thompson both in the studio and in Richard's case on tour. Between his own solo recording and various Plainsong line-ups Iain released ten albums to critical acclaim including another well known Top Ten US hit with the single 'Shake It'.
During the early 1980's Matthews turned towards the business side of musicas a rep for Island Records, but was persuaded by Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin to get back to making music. He returned to the USA for more solo work and Plainsong records. During this period he recorded a wonderful version of Peter Gabriel's 'Mercy Street", contributed to a Phil Ochs's Tribute album and recorded plus toured with Nanci Griffith. Next he released another respected record with the somewhat sarcastic title "Excerpts from Swine Lake".
In 2000 Matthews settled in the Netherlands and found a busy, happy life in Europe with more touring of the UK and continent. Yet more well received collaborative recordings were issued including a Tribute album to Sandy Denny. Since then Matthews has found one of his most sympathetic musical companions the pianist Egbert Derix. However Matthews feels he has finally found an almost perfect musical sweet spot, playing solo, in support of his most recent solo album 'A Baker's Dozen". As his 50 years (can this be true) in the business prove, things do come around again and again.... and Iain Matthews, guitar in hand and songs springing from his muse, is available for bookings. -

With 25 years of Califone in his catalog (not to mention a variety of other projects, including alt rock heroes Red Red Meat), the Chicago-born, Los Angeles-based knows well how to find that moment of awe and bliss even as things are falling apart. Part poet, part abstract painter, and always surrounded by a variety of hyper-talented collaborators (here including longtime cohorts Ben Massarella, Michael Krassner, Rachel Blumberg, and Brian Deck, as well as the likes of Nora O'Connor and Finom's Macie Stewart), Rutili has always excelled at luring listeners through elusive lyrics, flashes of shadows and images coming together in disarming unity.

PEELANDER-Z, the Japanese Action Comic Punk Band based in NYC, was originally formed in 1998 by Peelander-Yellow, Peelander-Red, and Peelander-Blue, after meeting in New York City (although they'll tell you they're all from the Z area on the planet Peelander). Peelander-Green was welcomed in July 2008 after Blue left the band.
Peelander-Z has appeared at major music festivals including Bonnaroo and the Vans Warped Tour and has also been featured on TV programs such as VH1's "Best Week Ever" and Comedy Central's "Upright Citizens Brigade" among others. The band has also been covered by SPIN, Rolling Stone, Village Voice, NPR and The Onion among many others.
At its live shows, Peelander-Z guarantees intense audience participation and a chance to exercise. You'll see the band in colorful costumes reminiscent of Japanese anime, though they describe their outfits as their skin. You'll also see The Red Squid, human bowling and all around insanity. A Peelander-Z performance is a rare occasion for the entire family to rock out and have a great time.
Dog Party is a California-based, indie rock'n'roll band, composed of sisters, Gwendolyn and Lucy Giles. Compared with bands like The Go-Go's, The Ramones, The White Stripes, and The Runaways, Dog Party establishes their own unique west coast sound with a dash of punk and a sprinkle of pop. With 6 records and extensive touring under their belts, Dog Party has been active since 2007. In fall of 2016, they were the Special Guests on Green Day's Revolution Radio North American tour.

Full-hearted, free-spirited, and irresistibly genuine, Erin Viancourt's take on country music is both timeless and entirely attuned to the chaos of modern life. On her debut album Won't Die This Way, the Cleveland-bred singer/songwriter/guitarist brings her lived-in storytelling to a gritty but gorgeously detailed batch of songs, encompassing everything from Americana to Western swing to classic outlaw country. Rooted in the warm and radiant vocal presence she's shown onstage in touring arenas with Cody Jinks (who recently made Viancourt the first signing to his Late August Records), Won't Die This Way ultimately reveals her rare capacity to soothe the soul and leave the listener newly empowered to live each day to the absolute fullest.
Co-produced by Viancourt and Kyle Dreaden, Won't Die This Way came to life at Nashville's Forty One Fifteen and The Smoakstack in a series of sessions. With its tracklist comprised of songs she's gathered over the past decade, the album opens on "Cheap Paradise," a joyfully irreverent and tender ode to life's simplest pleasures. "It's always fun to take a big trip to somewhere you've never been, but to me paradise is driving down an open back road or sitting in a dive bar with a good jukebox and bottle of cheap beer," says Viancourt. In its up-close exploration of the human heart's infinite complexity, Won't Die This Way also offers up such soul-baring tracks as "Who Taught You How To Love" (a beautifully aching slow-burner laced with jazz-like percussion) and "Should've Known Better'' (an epic yet exquisitely restrained outpouring of regret, featuring a blistering guitar solo from Lentner). And on Won't Die This Way's title track--co-written with Jinks and Kendell Marvel--Viancourt delivers a defiant anthem whose raw intensity is gloriously heightened by its powerful harmonies and smoldering guitar riffs. "Many can relate to the feeling of needing personal change and realizing that they must be the ones to make it happen," she says. "This applies to relationships, careers, living situations, old habits/mindsets and the list goes on that can affect ones happiness and peace. That responsibility can feel like both a defeat and a breakthrough, but we only get one life. I hope this song inspires others and gives them the extra courage to take the reins and create positive changes."
Showcasing the sheer depth of Viancourt's musicality, Won't Die This Way gracefully journeys from the rowdy honky-tonk of "Crazy in My Mind" to the finespun folk of "Mountain Boy," endlessly spotlighting the effortless vocal command she first began honing as a kid back in Cleveland. "I come from a pretty musical family, and spent a lot of time sitting around the campfire with 5 to 7 guitars going at once," she recalls. At age 18 she started writing songs of her own, tapping into longtime inspirations from Jerry Jeff Walker to Shel Silverstein and honing her singular narrative voice with the help of a stack of poetry books inherited from her paternal grandfather. After graduating high school she headed to Nashville and soon found her own community of fellow musicians and songwriters, then later made her debut with the early-2019 single "Playin' Old Records." Over the past few years, she's gained attention as a magnetic live performer, eventually landing such high-profile gigs as opening for Jinks and the legendary Travis Tritt in 2021. "With the live show I always try to bring a good time and help people to let loose but also connect with each other," says Viancourt. "To me the most special thing about music is how it can help you feel less alone."
In the making of her debut album, Viancourt fully devoted herself to the work of preserving and magnifying her music's emotional impact, continually bringing a profound attention to detail to her production choices. "One of the reasons I loved working with Kyle is how he helped me to understand the process of creating something meaningful to leave behind," she says. "When we first started working on the record I had this idea that I had to nail everything in one take, but he stopped me cold in my tracks and said, 'That's not what we're doing. We're making a fossil.'" And thanks to that extraordinary level of care, Won't Die This Way fulfills the essential mission at the heart of all of Viancourt's songwriting. "I hope this album makes people want to move around a dance floor with a cold beverage, sing at the top of their lungs with the windows down, and keep moving forward with whatever they're looking for in life," she says. "Most of all I hope it reminds everyone that they're not alone and we're all a little crazy--so let's all grow together and do it with style. -

Five years ago it seemed like Uncle Lucius had run its course. They had torn a swath out of the Texas roots music scene over a 13 year run, worn out 5 vans and recorded 4 albums, and grown a reputation at home and abroad as a thrilling, dynamic live act. Long-time fans were certain they'd be a massive global hit. The only question was when.
Growing families demanded their fathers' attention, and years of touring started to feel like circles around a drain. The tide went out, and they folded up their sails.
The audience had other ideas. Interest in the band continued to grow during their absence from the touring circuit. Pro athletes used their songs for walk on music, and top-rated television shows featured their music during pivotal scenes.
"We should have broken up years ago," they joked.
They never intended to reunite. Some things are not up to us. intention is well & good, but some people are made to play together, meant to create together. And intuition was their intention, all along.
The tides had transferred, the forces realigned. Uncle Lucius was a dream, first materialized over dank nights at the Horseshoe Lounge, drinking cheap beer with Dixie while the jukebox moaned. It crystallized on endless highway drives and onstage fever dreams. It felt like part of the past, but where one van breaks down, another van comes rolling up.
After a five year hiatus, the band will be bringing their methods of soul, joy, and thunder to select stages across the country. All we've got is now. -

Orange county punk trio Agent Orange were the pioneers of surf punk, melding the guitar figures of classic surf music with the fast-and-loud attack of hardcore punk rock, and they became one of the truly enduring bands in the West Coast punk community. Formed in 1979 by guitarist and vocalist Mike Palm, they became one of the leading acts in West Coast punk with the release of the single "Bloodstains" in 1980, which received extensive radio support from iconic DJ Rodney Bingenheimer. The group's debut album, 1981's Living in Darkness, became a touchstone in the skate punk underground, and 1986's This Is the Voice found them adding some polish to their sound without robbing their music of its intensity. The group's recording activities dropped off in the mid-'90s after the release of 1996's Virtually Indestructible, but Palm kept Agent Orange busy as a live act well into the 2010s, touring the world and pleasing fans despite numerous lineup changes.

"'Just play what you feel, be real about it, and enjoy yourself.' That's what Albert Collins taught me," says the award-winning guitar virtuoso and soul-deep singer Coco Montoya. The self-taught, left-handed Montoya mastered his craft under Collins' tutelage. Incorporating lessons learned from his mentors, the iconic Collins (for whom he originally drummed), and UK legend John Mayall, Montoya puts his own stamp onto every song he performs. Since his first solo album in 1995 (which won him the Blues Music Award for Best New Artist), Montoya's endlessly inventive guitar work and passionate, hard-hitting vocals have kept him at the top of the blues world. With his new Alligator Records album, Writing On The Wall (his sixth for the label), Montoya delivers what he is already calling one of the best records he's ever made. For the very first time on Alligator, he decided to bring his road-tested band--noted keyboardist and songwriter Jeff Paris (Keb' Mo', Bill Withers), bassist Nathan Brown, and drummer Rena Beavers--into the studio with him. Between the camaraderie of the long-time bandmates and the sheer talent of all involved, the results have left Coco, in his words, "over the moon."
Produced by Grammy Award-winner Tony Braunagel (Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal) and co-produced by Jeff Paris, Writing On The Wall is a tour-de-force of memorable, hook-filled songs, sung with passion and fueled by equally memorable, top shelf musicianship. The 13 tracks include five written or co-written by Montoya. The set opens with a signature, career-defining performance of the soul-baring I Was Wrong, written for Coco by songwriter Dave Steen. From the blistering Save It For The Next Fool to the enjoy now/pay later philosophy of Jeff Paris' (I'd Rather Feel) Bad About Doin' It to the riveting reinvention of Lonnie Mack's Stop, Montoya delivers each song with heart-pounding emotion. Special guest Lee Roy Parnell adds his well-seasoned slide guitar to the smoldering A Chip And A Chair. And Coco's friend, guitarist Ronnie Baker Brooks (son of late Alligator star Lonnie Brooks), joins in for some good-natured fun on the droll Baby, You're A Drag and adds his blistering playing to the searing cover of Bobby Bland's You Got Me.
"I am so proud of this one," Montoya says of Writing On The Wall. "We recorded in Jeff Paris' studio and everything just gelled together. And the band inspired me; they all gave extra effort at every turn. Jeff, Nathan and Rena played so great, they ended up making me play even harder. They made me sound better than I am!"
Henry "Coco" Montoya was born in Santa Monica, California, on October 2, 1951, and raised in a working-class family. Growing up, Coco immersed himself in his parents' record collection. He listened to big band jazz, salsa, doo-wop and rock 'n' roll. His first love was drums; he acquired a kit at age 11. He got a guitar two years later. "I'm sure the Beatles had something to do with this," Montoya recalls. "I wanted to make notes as well as beats." But guitar was his secondary instrument. Montoya turned his love of drumming into his profession, playing in a number of area rock bands while still in his teens and becoming an in-demand drummer.
In 1969, Montoya saw Albert King opening a Creedence Clearwater Revival/Iron Butterfly concert at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. He was transformed. "After King got done playing," says Montoya, "my life was changed. When he played, the music went right into my soul. It grabbed me so emotionally that I had tears welling up in my eyes. Nothing had ever affected me to this level. He showed me what music and playing the blues were all about. ?I knew that was what I wanted to do."
The next chapter of Montoya's story was kick-started by a chance meeting in the mid-1970s with legendary bluesman Albert Collins. Montoya says, "Albert was coming through Los Angeles and needed to borrow my drum set, which I left at the club where he was going to be playing. I went down to see his show that night and it just tore my head off. The thing that I had seen and felt with Albert King came pouring back on me when I saw Albert Collins."
A short time later, Collins hired Montoya as his band's drummer. With Albert mentoring Coco on the guitar during the band's downtime, Coco soon became Collins' second guitarist. "We'd sit in hotel rooms for hours and play guitar," remembers Montoya. "He'd play that beautiful rhythm of his and just have me play along. He was always saying, 'Don't think about it, just feel it.' He was like a father to me," says Coco, who often slept at Collins' home. When Collins declared Montoya his "son," it was the highest praise and affection he could offer. In return, Montoya learned everything he could from the legendary Master of the Telecaster.
Needing a more regular paycheck, Montoya left Collins' band after two years and took a job tending bar, jamming on weekends at Los Angeles clubs. One day, legendary British musician John Mayall heard Coco playing Otis Rush's All Your Love (I Miss Loving) onstage. Soon after, Mayall called on Montoya to join his famous Bluesbreakers. Filling the shoes of previous Bluesbreaker guitarists Eric Clapton, Peter Green and Mick Taylor would not be easy, but Montoya knew he could not pass up the opportunity to play with another legend. For the next ten years he toured the world and recorded with Mayall on seven albums, soaking up the experience of life on the road and in the recording studio.
Montoya's recorded debut as a bandleader came with 1995's Gotta Mind To Travel (originally on Silvertone Records in England and later issued in the USA on Blind Pig Records). The album became an instant fan favorite. Blues enthusiasts, radio programmers and critics sent praise from all corners. The album immediately made it clear that Montoya ranked among the best players on the contemporary scene. Two more Blind Pig albums followed, and Coco was well on his way.
In 2000, Montoya's Alligator debut, Suspicion, quickly became the best-selling album of his career, earning regular radio airplay on over 120 stations nationwide. Montoya's fan base exploded. After two more highly successful and massively popular Alligator releases--2002's Can't Look Back and 2007's Dirty Deal--Montoya signed with Ruf Records, cutting both a live and a studio album. Returning to Alligator with 2017's Hard Truth and 2019's Coming In Hot, the guitar master continued to blaze his trail. "Montoya unleashes one career-topping performance after another," declared the UK's Blues Matters.
Still an indefatigable road warrior, Montoya continues to tour virtually nonstop, bringing audiences to their feet from New York to New Orleans to Chicago to San Francisco. Across the globe, he's performed in countries including Australia, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, England, Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Mexico, Ecuador, Italy, Poland, Russia, the Czech Republic and Canada.
Now, with the dynamic Writing On The Wall and a tour calendar busting at the seams, Coco Montoya is as excited as he's ever been to perform the new songs live with his burning-hot band. Montoya's well-earned reputation as an eye-popping live performer precedes him. Vintage Guitar states, "Coco keeps getting better and better. He plays with fire and passion rarely seen in this day and age." Billboard declares, "In a world of blues guitar pretenders, Coco Montoya is the real McCoy. He exudes power and authenticity. Be prepared to get scorched by the real thing." -
